Conceptual Support has been given to developing Wisconsin's Green Island into a major resort.

According to an article in the Menominee Eagle Herald, the project will be named "Drew's Vineyard at Green Island" after keeper Frank Drew's daughter, who is buried on the island. Current plans for the $90 million development include a lighthouse historical park.

They'll have to really rebuild that lighthouse. There's not much left. :(

I didn't see any mention of the Lighthouse in the article....Possibly off the projected project's Radar, I suppose. However, it would be nice if they could peel off a couple Mil from that $90M pricetag to rebuild the light....Or at the very least preserve the ruins.

I swear it said something about the lighthouse... but I might be wrong.
I mean, how could they develop the whole of Green Island but not the remains of the lighthouse?

I included the only mention of the lighthouse in the article in my original post - the development will include "a lighthouse historical park."

Sorry, Terry...I spaced that part....

This 'Lighthouse Park'.....Any idea of what that entails as per the Green Island Lighthouse ?

No word yet as to whet the "historical lighthouse park" would entail, but am keeping my ear to the ground.

It sure can't be a lighthouse park without giving attention to the lighthouse!

The developers interpretation of what would appropriately constitute a Lighthouse Park can only be speculated upon at this time.

At one end of the spectrum I could see them reasonably see them erecting a tight security fence around the lighthouse, privy and Anna's grave, with signs on the outside of the fence stating something like "This area is being preserved as a natural memorial to the valiant keepers who served here." At the other end of the spectrum, they could completely rebuild the lighthouse to its original glory and operate it as a museum of bed and breakfast Inn.

I would hazard a guess that it will likely end up being somewhere in between

I would expect it to be leaning more towards the first end of the spectrum. :?

While some area residents are voicing preference for Green Island becoming an unimproved nature preserve, this article in the Door County Advocate reports that the Anna's Vineyard project does include "Restoration of the lighthouse, a historical park and nature preserve" are part of the proposal.

I'll take that to mean rebuilding it :)
