Suzanne,

Thanks for posting the article.

In your opinion, and those closer to the situation, how valid are the claims of the Association ... are they real or is it a case of the affluent protecting their corner of the universe?

Prior posts on the county takeover intimated that it wasnt a lock ... this just puts the exclamation point on it.

Thanks again,
Barry

There's a severe shortage of parking at Big Red in Holland, MI now... When I first moved to this area 8 years ago.... parking :?: No problem at Big Red... dozens and dozens of parking spaces... a whole parking lot, in fact... Enter the rollin' in the money types... ooops.... people coming to OUR lighthouse.... can't have the riff-raff disturbing our idyllic beach.... Plow up the parking lot, turn it into greenspace.... manufacture a shortage of parking.... put up a guard shack and then install 3 parking spaces for the required access to Big Red, which is a National Historic landmark.... but put them BEHIND the gate at the guard shack so you can't get to them unless the guard lets you through. Hmmmm want to visit the lighthouse in the winter. Sorry, no guard then...

I suspect the same thing has happened with Cana Island. Door County tries to buy some land for parking and the local residents who don't want all those icky touristy types and lighthouse lovers there at Cana Island pay more than the county can afford to for said land. So.... it's likely that there's a shortage of parking being manufactured once again at Cana Island, it would seem so that those who live there can maintain their exclusive access to the area. Granted, there is a shortage of parking at Cana Island, and granted the road is narrow and winds along the lake shore... and the residents have ALL access to the beach closed off so that that's private too!
