I've only ever gotten distant shots of Pilot Island from the tip of the Door Peninsula (like 1100 mm focal length shots). I've gotten closer to Plum Island on the way out to Pottawattamie on the ferry.

It's probably also worth noting that these were shot on slide film so there was no "telephoto" factor to help with the lens' reach.

Despite living in the Great Lakes region of the country for 10+ years, I never made it to Door County during the annual lighthouse walk to take one of the boat trips that goes out to Pilot and Plum island lighthouses.

That second photo that is labeled Plum Island is the Coast Guard building, not the Plum Island lighthouse.
