My only gasp will be if Gannett New Jersey and the Asbury Park Press dumps me sometime during the next few months and I ... 1. Find another job, and 2. If that employer will allow me to take off for a week including the Labor Day weekend.

Well, I guess with the way layoffs within the APP and Gannett have gone this year, there is hope yet ... 8O

I am currently soliciting ideas for Lake Michigan for 2010. Anyone out there have a great idea they would like to share. Keep in mind we don't want to go more than 100 miles in a day, and we want to limit open water as much as possible. I have been thinking of a few Canadian trips, but I want to see how our trip this summer goes. If dealing with customs works out as well as the customs departments say it will, we will definately be back. Eastern Lake Superior out of the Soo, Northeastern Lake Huron/Georgian Bay. These trips I think would be awesome. There are some lights on those destinations that are just impossible to see without a boat. Michipicoten/Caribou Islands, Great Duck. Imagine getting those lights in your portfolio. I would like to do something for the Door County lighthouse walk in the spring, and maybe the Great Lakes lighthouse festival in the fall. In between we are looking for ideas, and remember nothing is out of the question.

For a Lake Michigan trip I think a trip around Door county that also meandered over towards Escanaba and Minneapolis Shoal then to Poverty and St. Martin Islands would be cool. You could hit the Beaver Island archipelago in one day to get North & South Manitou, South Fox, Beaver Head & Whiskey Point, Lansing Shoal and Squaw Island. Maybe even get Skillagalee in there.

Georgian Bay would be a great trip as well. I know it's been mentioned before, and I'm glad you're still considering it.

Jason, I'd vote for the Georgian Bay big time! Hersh's idea on Lake Michigan sounds good too!

Jason, GLLKA has been doing a pretty good job of covering the northern ends of Lake Huron and Michigan for years. After all - it's right in our back yard.

If the Customs thing works out this July, we will definitely want to arrange an excursion to see the Canadian lights on the eastern end of Superior, and all of Georgain Bay. - Let's keep our fingers crossed this July.

I know that at least Gary and Hersh and I are on the cruise. Not sure if anybody else has signed-up. I am on vacation for a week and can't check the sign-up sheet from home.

There are approximately 30 seats still available - so you can bring a bunch of friends with you, and we'd love to have you join us.

OK, I have vacation from work on these days, now just need to make sure I will be walking. I see the Orthopedic doctor for a little tendon problem in my ankle on Tuesday.
