Little Sable Point Fresnel Lens

A forum to discuss lighthouses in the US Great Lakes Region
(Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and the lake lighthouses of New York & Pennsylvania)

I admire Little Sable Point lighthouse and am modeling in 3D. I would like to find clear complete photos of the 3rd order Fresnel lens from this particular light. I have seen a few photos on the internet, but none give me a clear understanding of the "ridges" of the lens so that I can accurately place the various parts into either the rotating upper half or the fixed lower half. And even if I could guess at the number of pieces of glass, I am also interested in the proportions of the height of the lower half to the upper half.

Any help finding photos or even good drawings would be appreciated.

Thanks, Ethos

Ethos.

The following images should give you what you need.

The design of the lens at Little Sable is unique to the Great Lakes, as it is the only one in which the dioptric belt and lower catadioptric panels are both fixed, with only the upper catadioptrics rotating. Most unusual.

I hope these help.

Terry,
Yes! This is the best photo I have seen and suits my needs for this project. As I studied other lenses in photos I found on the internet, I leaned the many differences of lenses, but this one stands out as special. It is somewhat sad that it was made with a steel frame rather than brass, but it still is in remarkable condition.
