2009 will mark the 50th anniversary of the opening of the St Lawrence Seaway and thus the Great Lakes basin to ocean-going ships. The publisher of Great Lakes & Seaway Review/Great Laker for whom I do Marine Photography spreads is doing a special commemorative issue. For some reason I thought it was older than that.

Nope, it opened in 1959 :!:

On the other hand, 2009 marks the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the Hudson River.
