Braddock Point Lighthouse

A forum to discuss lighthouses in the US Great Lakes Region
(Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and the lake lighthouses of New York & Pennsylvania)

Postby LighthouseNews » Sun Feb 08, 2009 9:02 am

I received an email from a gentleman who purchased Braddock Point Lighthouse (Lake Ontario). It's been for sale for two years. Apparently they have permission to operate it as a Bed and Breakfast, so a new place to stay. Yay. :)

He said they operate a B and B in Florida currently, and are looking forward to opening this one. It looks like it will be a perfect place to stay.

I photographed Braddock Point in October as I was photographing my way eastward across Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, and the St Lawrence River. It will be nice to actually be able to go on the grounds of this lighthouse in the future to get better shots of it, not to mention being able to stay at it :!:

I just recently completed a story about the sale and what all the new owners have in mind. Hopefully it will run in Lighthouse Digest in the near future.

Sue ... thanks for this posting

Ive been looking at the picture in your post and trying to remember the last time I saw a one of Braddock Point from the water, let alone the water side and the air ... and, so perfectly set, were it not for the lapping water, I would have sworn it was a model of Braddock Point rather than the light itself

According to the Braddock Point website http://www.braddockpointlighthouse.com and a Thursday February 19, 2009 posting on Yahoo Finance, the lighthouse is still up for sale, and the price has been reduced to $1,050,000. http://finance.yahoo.com/real-estate/article/106601/What-You-Can-Get-for-1-Mi

Does anyone have anything definitive?

I can give you the most accurate information since I am the new owner. My wife and I HAVE purchased the lighthouse. We closed in December. As far as the price goes- don't believe everything that you read:)

Our intentions are to open this up from time to time to interested parties that enjoy lighthouses as much as we do. We also have permitting in place to operate a small Bed and Breakfast. In fact, we own a very nice BnB in Central Florida.

We are most interested in collecting any history regarding this "survivor" so that we can document the fascinating history of this beautiful lighthouse. We look forward to opening our doors soon to the readers of this post- Don and Nandy Town

Don and Nandy,

Thanks for joining Lighthousing.net, and for setting the record straight on your purchase of the Braddock Point lighthouse. I wish you the best of luck in your new endeavor.

Please don't be a stranger here on Lighthousing.net, there are a fine bunch of Pharologists who hang around this cyber street corner.

Thanks for the posting, and congratulations on the purchase. It's nice to see a near-neighbor lighthouse allowing some access, and I wish you the best of luck with the B&B! Just FYI, too, the Seaway Trail has a lighthouse subtheme, although the committee hasn't met in a while; that could be a good promotional channel for you.
