Lester Nichols Presque Isle Light Station Act of 2009

There is some history here. The third order lens was removed in 2003 for purposes of restoration but not known to the locals at the time Coast Guard historic preservation policy prevents the restored lens from being returned to the tower. I think the lens restoration was funded by the Township and with the belief and intent the lens would go back in the tower. A formal request for return of the lens made to the CG by Two Michigan Senators and Congressman was denied. Thus a bill was submitted in 2006 to Congress that would require the CG to return the lens. This first bill apparently died in committee or somewhere in process and was re-submitted again this year via this subject bill.
