When I was on DRL they told us about the basically worthless foghorn system. Glad to see they're finally doing something to fix the situation. Too bad they can't rig up the diaphones as the actual ATON again.... that would be cool.

I've heard of those radio operated systems before. It sounds like a good solution.

Related, I was on a GLLKA cruise once in the Straits where they told us that on some lights, the CG just has the horns running permanently.

In regards to Diaphones, are any still used as ATON's?

With the demise of the diaphone in the Duluth South Breakwater light which was established by TOOT, there are sadly no diaphones operating on the Great Lakes.

The Portage River South Entry light has a radio controlled fog signal similar to that being considered at Detour Reef light. It is activated by switching to VHF-FM Channel 79 and keying the microphone five times in quick succession.
