I need to stop subjecting myself to the cesspool of humanity that is the comments section on internet news articles.

No matter what the project, there's always going to be somebodies coming out against it. The one reader who called the structure "Ugly" obviously is no lover of Lighthouses. I would love to have that Light outside my picture window instead of the bland scenery I now see. How dare the mighty GLLKA swoop in and try to improve the area with a replica of it's own history !

Thing that bothers me, is there wasn't any comments supporting the project. If the residents of Petoskey don't want a model of their own history, prehaps it would be better to offer it somewhere down the road to a community who would appreciate it.

The Petoskey lighthouse replica was on the agenda again at the City Council meeting tonight. Although Sunset Park was nixed as a location, we think we have a better location as a backup. Stay tuned. Here's an article from the Petoskey News...

For those who may be interested, I have added a slide show on our quest to erect a replica of the
1912 Petoskey Breakwater light to the GLLKA website.

Go to http://www.gllka.com and click on the yellow and red Petoskey link at the lower left of our home page.

What Is Wrong With These People ? :(

One voice in rebuttal......

Your latest lighthouse opinion piece makes no sense. You say the sponsors should not raise money for the lighthouse, because it is an unwise use for the money, but apparently you were okay with them raising the money if the lighthouse could have been placed at the end of the breakwater. What’s the difference? You say it could be a traffic hazard. How? It’s not as though it will take up a whole city block. It is possible that it could become a future liability for the city, but so could the statue of Chief Petoskey; so could the clock on J C. Penney’s corner; and so could many other gifts to the city. Furthermore, your opinion should have come BEFORE council made their decision. You’re too late.
Therefore all you are doing is attempting to create an issue where there really is none. Why don’t you just leave the lighthouse people alone? It’s their project.
They raise money for lighthouses. It’s what they do.
