Meeting in Noordwijk

A forum to discuss lighthouses in Canada, Australia, Europe and Asia.

Last Saturday the Dutch Lighthouse Association had a meeting in Noordwijk, close to the lighthouse that I recently posted here when it was used as a political billboard (http://www.lighthousing.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=10075).

The light is not among the most important ones at our coast, but the tower has a nice architecture. It's the only lighthouse here with an entire glass lantern room. The plane route to Amsterdam Airport is leading almost over the tower and the light used to serve as an aviation light too. Remarkable is that the lantern room just has half an optic. At the sea side of the lamp there's a fresnel lens, at the land side there's nothing. This is no problem because the lamp is flashing, or better said, it is occulting 3 times every 20 seconds, so the optic is not rotating.

Keepers room and glass lantern room. Behind the holes just below the lantern room there's a balcony.

The air route still goes over the lighthouse
