Looking at the photo above, the upper silhouette sure
looks familiar but as of yet I still can't verify which one
it is. ('Still looking, though....

)

Hmm... in your who's who profile you profess a love of travel to Scotland. I'm guessing Aberdeen -- either the harbor light or Girdle Ness.

It looks like it has a balcony halfway and one on top. That made me think it was German. But the Swedish also built a lot like that. So I go further North to Sweden. Is that the right direction?

The Girdleness (or Girdle Ness) tower does not look like a typical Stevenson design. I wonder what function the lower gallery deck served, a fog signal perhaps.

Actually is was a Stevenson design, but very early. The bulge in the lower part of the tower used to be the top of the tower and held a circle of reflectors and oil lamps to create a reflector style fixed light. This was later replaced by the addition of the much taller tower and a Fresnel lens.

It certainly is a unique design light tower. So the lower gallery was the top of the original tower. The original structure must have been substantial to support the weight of the added height.
