I'll see it in September, and frankly, I hope lots of people are there enjoying and admiring the lighthouse. Sure it's nice to photograph a light without people in it, but lighthouses weren't built to make photographers happy. I'm always glad to see people at lighthouses. That means the interest hasn't completely waned, and there is still hope for preservation, and another generation learning and appreciating the history of the light.

Thanks for posting the news clip, Barry

Hi Judy ...

No, not the people ... the fact the publisher made a conscious decision to show 4/5's of a lighthouse ... especially one of reknown, one that is recognizable on sight and is representative, a symbol, of the area ... I will guarantee you the spot will not be lacking in people ...

What other NS lights are you planning on seeing? I hope you make it up to the Cape Breton area ... beautiful, just beautiful!

We'll be seeing a large number...it's a 13 day trip to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. It's another one of Dave Hannum's great trips, like the one where I met Paul. This time, we'll be going together.

Gee Barry, I think you just stumbled across an LHD winner of a shot there.

Ok, seriously though that is just a terrible shot. Without getting into what is, or isn't, a good shot I can't imagine why anybody would run a shot like that. I'm not going to say any more before what I really thinks spills out of my keyboard.

The main trust of the article was about the neglect of this famous lighthouse -- Seems like the U.S. Isn't the only ones that can't paint even their high-profile lights..........

That IS a crappy photo -- wonder if the lantern room looks as bad...........

Maybe Ron can give some insight ... why dollars for Fisguard Light, no dollars for Peggy's Cove?

Is it heresy to say I was just mildly impressed on my visit here? A little more ... From Canada.com

Because they aren't in the same province? The way I read the article (on Fisguard) that money is coming from British Columbia where Fisquard is located, and Peggy's Cove is in Nova Scotia.

Changing direction, MP Gerald Keddy ordered Peggys Cove to be repainted this year.

One suggestion on finding the money ... from the first article ...

Fire the psychic “style” consultant the Prime Minister has. The way they missed on the budget projections, they are not listening to her anyway.

Gotta love it ...

Ok, so if it gets painted, thats great, BUT, looking at the picture of the spalling concrete, thats a deeper issue. That takes more than a coat of paint. Actually, a new coat of paint without proper concrete stabilization can make that problem worse, especially if the wrong paint is used, just look at Ft. Gratiot.

I'm astounded at these photos of Peggy's Cove.

We were there in June 2008 and saw none of this paint and concrete damage.

It's amazing how quickly it has surfaced.

I'm hoping that's where the $25,000 cost is figured in. Slapping a coat or two of paint on that wouldn't cost that much. So yes, I'm going to assume that concrete issue will be fixed.

Of course, we know what assume really means...

Dennis, it had to be the hard weather that caused that. We had some wicked cold temps (-50 up that way) this year, and NS got hit with worse weather than we did. A lot of the bad storms bypassed us (thanks to the Gulf of Maine) and took a direct hit on NB and NS.

Picture posted a couple days ago of Sambro Island. Note its deterioration (and the graffiti  ). Click for bigger and better view.

This hard winter weather is why I dream of the Virgin Islands.
