That bought back memories,I was at Girdleness for a month as a supernumary keeper.
They used to do open top bus tours from Aberdeen which went past the perimeter wall and I remember painting the dome and waving down to them.

Fred were you ever posted at a light on the Isle Of Man? I spent many many holidays thereand always visited the lights as part of my holiday. I missed the whole island like cazy when I emigrated to AUstralia. One of the first places I visited after I returned to the UK was the IOM.

I've been associated with IOM lighthouses since 1978 and though I now work part time,official job title is :-
Retained Lighthouse Keeper (Isle of Man)
