In August I was hired to shoot the Major Lacrosse League Championship Weekend in Los Angeles. I had the first afternoon free so I took a short trip to Point Vicente.

And after a short walk up the hill just south of the base, I spotted this...

The Black Pearl
They were shooting "Pirates of the Carribean III" about a 1/2 mile off shore just south of the light.

Thats a good day!

Joe,

You got some very nice shots of the lighthouse- liked the pirate ship as well.

It looks like the Lantern room exterior could use a paint job and some other maintainence as well.

It's been several years since I was there last. Did you get to Point Fermin or see Angel's Gate while in the area?

I visited Point Fermin, Angels Gate, Lion's Club Light and Parker's Restaurant last year while on vacation. At that time, mudslides blocked the road to Pt. Vicente from Pt. Fermin. On this trip, a car accident that blocked 4 lanes and stopped me from visiting Pt. Fermin. The accident victim was brought to the Pt. Vicente base and helicoptered out from there. The road was cleared sometime after I left the area.

Great shots, Joe! Looks like your weather was better than when I was there in 2004. Thanks for sharing!

What kind of camera/zoom did you use on the shot of Angel's Gate? That is an AWESOME photo!

If I recall, I was using a Sigma 120-300 (at 300mm) with a 1.4x TC. So it was about 420mm worth of lens.

Well it's a totally awesome (geez, how 80s sounding is that?) shot. My favorite of the ones you posted. Brenda
