It Only Took 7 Years...

Just got back from a lighthouse trip? Have you just finished photographing every aspect of one lighthouse? Post the pictures here! Lighthouse-related photos are also welcome.

...but I finally made it out to Faulkner's Island light here in Connecticut. This was also the last light I needed to see in CT too.

Open houses are only held 1 weekend a year, if it is not canceled for weather. Only twice now in the history of the open houses has public transportation been made available for guests to visit the island. This year's transportation was provided by Barry Natale of Sound Navigation. Yesterday was a gorgeous day to be out on the water unlike the previous day when the lighthouse trips were canceled due to weather advisories.

When I was planning my first real trip after my re-baptism into all things lighthouse, I remember reading in Kochel, paraphrasing, that "distant views of Faulkner's Island lighthouse can be seen from the municpal docks in the town of Guilford"

Well, I made it to the docks ... but I'm thinking the word "view" needs some revising ...

Shirin, thanks for sharing your trip ... how many people made it out there? ...

I was on the first boat out Barry so I'm not sure what the total was for the day. However, before my boat left the island around 11ish, I heard someone say that they had already had 88 people visit.

Congratulations, Shirin on seeing this lighthouse.

Thank you for posting the pictures of your day. This lighthouse reminds me of Point Judith, except for the upper outside stairs.

Thanks all! I was so glad to get out of the house Sunday morning and out to a light. While I got to see 20 something lights in Michigan in May, I still like my New England trips best.

Cool shots and the weather looked like it was a perfect day! That light reminds me alot of Old Point Comfort.

Thanks for sharing!

This was actually the 2nd time public transportation has been offered however I'm not 100% sure if the first time they were offered if the trips were held or if they were called off for bad weather. I tend to think the trips did go out but were sold out before I found out about them. So, perhaps that article Barry posted is a little off. But, either way, I'm just glad I finally made it out there.
