The Ore Carrier Walter J. McCarthy Jr. sits at a dock in Superior. The Coast Guard says a submerged object punched a hole in the ship's hull as it was backing into a dock. Water poured in throught he hole in the rear of the ship flooding the engine room. The ship's stern sank to the bottom next to the dock, where is is about 20 feet deep.

Could be attributable to the much lower than normal water levels in Lake Superior this year.

I'm thinking if it's found to have been anything but ice, then Hallett will be writing ASC a big check to cover the repairs...
