I had heard that it was to be torn down at one time, so this sounds like good news to me!

Anytime you can save a lighthouse from the chopping block...is good news!
Thanks, Stephen for the article!

It was suppose to be demolished a few years ago, but they did not have the money. So LACK of funding helped save this lighthouse....how strange.

Where can one find close-up photos and/or details of the light tower for this or the five other similar platforms lights?

"The company that planned to turn the dilapidated Frying Pan Shoals light tower into a home for a dive charter business has failed to complete the deal. Lee Spence, an owner of Shipwrecks Inc. of South Carolina, said he didn’t hand over the necessary down payment because he wasn’t allowed to inspect the offshore structure, which is 35 miles from the mouth of the Cape Fear River." more in article

Since my last post, there has been a lot of activity at Frying Pan Shoals Tower. It was put up for auction again, and Richard Neal from Charlotte, NC, purchased it. Here is the most recent article about it.

This is the web site, which has all of the history http://www.fptower.com/

You can also find lots of information on the Facebook page FryingPan Tower (note the words are together; there are other pages.) https://www.facebook.com/fryingpan.tower?fref=ts

Thanks Gayle. It's good to see it has a new owner after all this time.
