Highlights from an article ... From The News Journal

Republicans Paint Stimulus as a 'Failure'

WASHINGTON -- Hoping to cast a shadow on Vice President Joe Biden's announcement of funding for law enforcement, Republicans on Tuesday highlighted the "failure" of the $787 billion stimulus package in Delaware and the region ... The release also targets plans to spend $400,000 on a permanent berth for the historic Lightship Overfalls in Lewes as "stimulus money wasted in the First State." ... The Overfalls berth project and a $7.4 million stimulus grant for boardwalk revival in Rehoboth Beach were highlighted last month in a report on "100 examples of questionable stimulus projects" by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla ...

Delaware Department of Transportation spokesman Darrel Cole said the projects are easy to defend.
The Overfalls berth was one of few projects that qualified as a "shovel-ready" transportation enhancement, and it received more positive responses from the public than any other project, he said..."It's not only is going to create hundreds of jobs, but it's going to invest in the economic infrastructure, which is in this case is tourism," he said.

While I have some complaints myself about where some of the stimulus money went, this is not one of them. This obviously put local people to work or kept them working, and any enhancement to a waterfront is a good thing. Particularly if it's NOT some giant hotel/convention center. And perhaps a safety factor involved here, if I'm not mistaken?

I wish the Party of NO would just stop with this stuff, then maybe the economy can get back on track. And since when is funding for law enforcement a bad thing?? Getting our laid off police officers on the job and out of the donut shops is good!
