I LIKE THIS... :!: Honestly In Local Government.... :!:

"Several City Council members said Grand Haven does not typically maintain property well, and the lighthouses would be too big of a burden on the city.
"I do not see us owning it, because we don't do a very good job of maintaining and owning things," Councilman Mike Fritz said, citing the airport and the Coast Guard boat on Seventh Street."

Maybe Waugoshance WOULD be a good place for the PETA program......

Then again, I don't think Dick or Terry would want them THAT close.....

Off-Topic -- Is that guy in the Photo trying to SURF ???

Huh...That's wild...Guess I'm not up there enough in the fall....Saw a guy wind surfing (or trying to) up in Escanaba about 3 years ago....(he kept falling off).....Seeing that shot above just instantly reminded me of almost being washed off the St. Joe Pier a while back.....

Thanks for the Michigan Picture link.....

On topic, I don't see the ASPCA trying to pull the stunts that PETA does....What's wrong with these people......They may be getting publicity, but I would think after this It would be hard for anyone much to take them seriously.....The bad thing is, they might just one day grab one of the Lights that nobody steps up for.....That's Tragic.....

As I believe I posted previously, up to this point in time. PETA's tactic has been to file letters of interest, and immediately send out a press release. It has earned them a ton of free publicity over the past couple of years.

As of this point, I do not believe that they have taken the next step of actually filing an application for any of the numerous lighthouses for which they have submitted letters of interest.

While this could change, I don't really think they are interested in shouldering the the high costs of historic preservation lighthouse ownership would entail, and are milking the process to garner free press coverage - and the media eats right out of their hands!

Woah...All kinds of things out there right under your nose that you'd never think about.....

I like this Quote, puts it in perspective for me.....

“Once you sort of get bit by that bug, you get a taste, you can easily get addicted."

The same could be said for Lighthouse Freaks.....

What IS surprising is that even when PETA "pulls their name" from consideration, the Grand Haven Tribune still keeps publicizing their "fish empathy" project. A classic case of first-class media manipulation

Ashley Burn, a spokeswoman for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. "We're looking for an area that could reach more people with our message of compassion for fish."

Try Devil's Tower, Wyoming, Ashley.
