How cool is that?? I love the blues, so I'd love be planting my backside there for the evening.

But in looking at the web site, there is a $25 admission fee for one day, so I don't know about your 'for free' part, Jason. Unless you made some kind of back-door deal for us. 8) But I kinda doubt it.

Suzanne and Hersh

First off the motel is the Super 8. I know Super 8, sounds like a dump, but in the UP they are actually pretty nice. Hersh, it is $25 if you want to get right up close and personal, but if you like to just sit back and enjoy, there is a big blue boat that is going to be docked in the Lower Harbor that evening.

Aha... And I think I know the Captain of that boat personally so I might be able to sneak aboard and enjoy some tunes whilst sipping a brew away from the throngs of people. I like that!

The only possible snafu being that the Super 8 is definitely more than walking distance from the marina. That's why the ticket price includes the cost of vans to transport everyone and their bags from the marina to the hotel for supper, and then back to the marina in the morning. If you want to head back to the waterfront that evening, folks will need to come up with their own transportation. Any ideas?

If this is the same hotel we stayed at on the WILD cruise, walking to the marina is no problem, I hoofed it to the lighthouse and back for sunset photography. And the lighthouse is beyond the marina.

The Super 8 is located at 1275 Us Highway 41 West, which is 2.04 miles from the marina. We are eating right next door to the hotel. That's why we are having vans take us to and from the hotel.

All the hotels within walking distance of the marina were either booked or too darned expensive.

There are several cab companies that do run around down there. The vans we have hired are run by checker cab. I am sure they would be happy to bring people around if they want to go to see a few things while we are in town.

Reading Terry's Facebook post the other day, I've now waffled back from resignation to envy ... I hope this trip is everything anticipated .... and then just a little bit more. I am already waiting anxiously for the posted pictures ... I defined vicarious much earlier in this thread ... I am now the living emobodiment of the concept.

On the WILD cruise we stayed at the Ramada Inn, which wasn't too bad distance wise. The Super 8 in Marquette is kind of pricy. I know another hotel that is nice and the rates are much better, it was my second choice after the Ramada because it is a little further away from the harbor.

^^ What Barry says. 8)

I too would have loved to have gone. Unfortunately my son has "chosen" Sept. 7 as the due date for my first grandchild. So I too will have to eagerly await photos. I think Gary Martin is also going. Between him and the other wonderful photogs we have on here, we will be able to vicariously enjoy this trip.

To All

Wow!!! Three days done, and not a wave to speak of. 70 to 80 every day, and reflections in the water at Spectacle Reef. Trip is going great!!!.

Contrast that with Labor Day along the mid-NJ coast ...

Sunday, winds were out of the NE at 20, gusting to 35 ... and 80% overcast
Monday, winds slightly diminshed ... and 70% overcast
Tuesday ... pretty much the same as Monday

So glad the weather gods have cooperated for you all ...
Now ... get home safe ... and post many, many pictures

Here are a few photos I took during the cruise. By no means all of the almost 30 lights we saw,
but a few either lesser seen lights, or lights which are seldom seen from the water.

All in all, a great trip. Stay tuned for GLLKA's offerings for 2010, I believe we have some real winners in the works!

Terry .... thanks .... that's the way the lights are meant to be seen.

A special thanks for the OMP shot ... I was captivated by it on my 2002 visit and fascinated by it ever since ... this view was just wonderful ... and, not for nothing, but for me the Jacobsville and the Au Sable shots stood out among all the winners you shared ...

Humbly I am hoping you are able to avoid holidays on the 2010 trip list as I surely would love to make one of these excursions ... Thanks again so much for the post
