There may well beunrecorded instances of guns used for fog warnings at other coastal stations,but in America the practise dates from 1720 at Boston.
The earliest documented use in England is from 1777,at Bamburgh,where a gun was fired every fifteen minutes.
The Trinity House stations at Flamorough Head and North Stack fired eighteen-pound cannon,as at Lundy
The List of Lights from 1865 reports that ''A gun is fired from North Stack every hour and half hour (GMT) during foggy weather.
