I knew Kenoshia Pier was going up for sale, but surprised no group stepped up for Manitowoc.

Note the difference in the minimum bids...10K and 25K...And the increaments. Assume due to difference in their respective sizes ?

That is indeed a shame....It is such a beautiful and accessable light.

Was up by there this past summer.....The whole area was crowded, lots of people out on the pier.

Beautiful and accessible, and literally just a short block from another very accessible lighthouse (Which charges $10 per person to climb, a bit much IMHO. Oh, but the museum in the keepers house is free. #-o Me and my girlfriend went there, found out we'd have to drop $20 just to climb, and decided walking the breakwater was better)

Yeah, I'd pulled up and parked across the street from Kenosha Southport. The Lighthouse door was open, and a fellow was sitting in a chair in there. I got out for a few photo ops, saw the little sign out front for $ 10 a head, went back and sat in the car for a bit more. It was a beautiful summer afternoon, and nobody, but nobody, came over there to take the tower tour or even to look at the Keeper's house in the half-hour or so I was sitting there. Drove down the hill to the pier light, and the whole place was packed. Couldn't even see a place to park.

Seems a bit salty to me, also. If it was $ 5 a head, I would have done it, but for $ 10 a head, we gave it a pass. That said, though, I feel they still have done a fine job in the restoration and maintenance, considering how the place looked just a few years ago.

I have been meaning to go up there to climb the tower, but have never made it this year. Maybe next year. I know the money is going back towards the lighthouse, so I don't mind paying, but I usually spend a lot in the gift shops because those profits go to the light also. I might be driving up to Wind Point next weekend, they usually have the lights up and I get my Holiday background picture for my computer there or at North Point. I will stop in Kenosha to see if they did any Holiday decorations. I was at Gross Point Last weekend and no holiday decorations there, only some lights next door at the Art Place.

I wonder why Fairport West in Ohio is drawing bids of 80K while Manitowoc in Wisconsin is only drawing bids of 30K and Kenosha Pier none at all ?

Maybe people just don't like Wisconsin
