After seeing that, does anyone still wonder why they lost the Cold War? ;)

There's hundreds of military 'islands' like this all over the Russian Coast -- most armed with WWII-vintage cannons and tank turrets. And most were in a similar state of disrepair in the 1980s!

I've returned to these pictures, this article, several times ...
