Kokomo, I used to hang out around there, many years ago. My youngest son was born there back in '82. Those other places, though, I have only driven through, as I live on the western side of the state, betwist Indy and Lafayette out here in the boonies.
The Indiana shoreline ? It is really only viable from Dunes State Park and up towards Michigan City and the border. Two lights are located in Michigan City, and the rest (Gary Light, Buffington, Indiana Harbor) are in the clutches of the Industrial areas, though the casino at Buffington made access easier. The Gary Light, I traveled 3 miles on a raft to get photos of, and for the Indiana Harbor, I caught a ride on a Tugboat. And Calumet Light, technically in Indiana waters, I took another boat to get to. My Icon is the Gary Light, since it was so much trouble to get out to...And, I really like it's design, as well.
But I digress. The 'D9' designation name for those cylinder lights comes form the CG name 'District Nine' for the Great Lakes District. Going through some of my photos lately, I saw that little puppy, and realized I never knew it's proper name. I will probably label it 'Cheboygan Pier' for now, but am still curious as to what it's real moniker is.
