Wow, I'm surprised they'd even remember that lighthouse. :?

I applaud the efforts of these fine people to bring back their Lighthouse History. Just like Oak Orchard, this takes years of planning and a lot of fundraising to make this happen. Kudos !!

(Not for nothing, first mention of this project on LH.NET was June 13, 2006 ... the
links are no longer active)

Chuck ...

I saw it in September .... also the replica at Old Plantation Flats
... also the one in Manteo in NC ... Couldnt see the one in Stingray
Point, Va (too far out of the way) or the one on Blackistone Island (Md)
(no boat) ....

I wondered out loud at the time if too many replicas is a bad thing

Well....I wouldn't think so. The original lights existed at one time, and were lost for one reason or other....Weather, destroyed, dismantled, what have you. Even a Replica can help save the memory of what once was, and thereby the history won't be forgotten as much as it would be with no light there. Decades from now, that Replica may still be standing for others like us to enjoy and travel to and marvel at.

Many early lights on the Great Lakes were torn down or destroyed, and replacements put up in their place in many instances. If that hadn't happened, would we still be able to go and see them, learn the history, marvel at them ? I look at replicas as a way to keep the fire for the Lights burning for future generations. And, if enough time passes, even a Replica will become a seasoned veteran at some point in time.
